Nasa Curry - September 16th - 25th 2005 - Ren's House

Ok....so I'm not actually reviewing anything related to NASA or space or whatever.  My friend chelsea told me about some cool "boil-in-the-bag" curries that she found in a grocery store somewhere in the mountains.  So i figured that if you were gonna have curry in space...it'd probably be just like these one.

Upon my begging she brought me 4 different ones to try.  They're from a company called kitchens of india, and they're apparently made by the master chefs at the ITC hotels in india.  Also according to the stamp on the front of the package they are certified Kosher.  Bonus.  I mixed all the items with plain white rice for consistency of testing but almost all could be eaten on their own.  Here goes, in no particular order.

1)  Pindi chana.  chick peas in thick tomato sauce.  Pretty darn good, a little bit of spice, not a lot of variety of flavours but pretty good.  Theres also some decent sized chunks of potato in here too...yum

2) Rajma masala.  kidney beans in tomato sauce.  A bit boring...kinda tastes like bland chili.  A little too much unmasked onion flavour for my liking too.

3)  Aloo mutter ... classic, peas and potato in sauce.  Tastes just like other aloo mutters i've had....which is to say, fairly boring.  Its not a bad dish....just really...what can you do with peas and potatos?  Not a hell of a lot...so...filling but kinda blah.

4)  Dal Bukhara ... black lentils in thick tomato sauce.  This one didn't really need the rice....its pretty thick.  Taste is kinda like a mexican re-fried bean vibe....so...not bad...probably make a good chip dip.

So...overall.  Not the best indian cuisine you'll ever shove in your yap...but not too bad.  Any-one would be acceptable for a meal on the quick or as a side-dish to a full meal.  I'm not sure how much it all cost...can't be that much though.  And hell...any food that you cook just by boiling its packaging in a pot rocks..... I won't rate it too high so i don't skew the real reviews...but really...try them out.  I found a similar product in my local safeway (and they even had some paneer dishes...yum).

overall 6/10
